Analysis

James's English met an aggressive 2...f5, and the game was over before either king had castled.

After 4.d4 e4 attacked the f3 knight, James answered with 5.d5, hitting the c6 knight rather than moving his own — a position where both knights were en prise and the side that captured first came out level. David chose 5...Na5, and the knight never got back into the game. 6.Nd4 rescued the f3 knight with tempo and hit f5; 6...g6 defended the pawn but left the knight stranded on the rim; 7.Qa4 attacked it a second time, so 7...b6 spent another move propping it up. Four of Black's first eight moves went to the same piece, and the evaluation had reached +2.9.

James's 8.e3 was a pause — Ne6 already won on the spot — and it gave David a chance to cover the square with Kf7. Instead 8...Bg7 put a second piece on the diagonal the knight was about to fork, and 9.Ne6 attacked queen and bishop at once, defended by the d5 pawn. Taking with the d-pawn opens the a4–e8 diagonal that 7.Qa4 had been eyeing all along, so the engine's line was Bxc3+ bxc3 b5 cxb5 dxe6, a pawn and the structure gone. David resigned.
