Analysis

berkut47 (1810) answered t3gantry's 1.c4 with a Semi-Slav structure, and the first seventeen moves passed without an engine flag on either side: pawns traded on d5, bishops on d6, and both queens shuffled around the b-file while the rooks came to c1 and f1.

The game then turned twice in the space of two moves. 17...Bd3 dropped a bishop onto a square where it attacked both f1 and c4, and the double threat was real, but the piece itself was undefended and White stood at +4.9. 18.c5 answered by hitting the queen on b6 rather than taking the bishop, and after 18...Qa6 19.Qxa6 Bxa6 the queens were off, the bishop had escaped with tempo, and Black was better at -1.8.

White kept fighting. 26.e4 and 29.d5 each pushed a pawn where a quieter move held more, but berkut47's 28...Ng4 handed the balance back, and by move 37 the position was level: two White rooks against a rook, bishop and knight, with Black's king exposed on g5. 37.Rxg4+ spent a rook on a knight that was pinned and immobile, and 42.Rg2 traded White's last active piece into a pawn endgame that needed no technique. berkut47 collected the queenside and White resigned on move 44.
